About this project
This Franklin, Texas project is a 40′ × 60′ main building with an 18′ eave height — 2,400 sq. ft. of enclosed space, plus another 1,800 sq. ft. of open lean-to space.
One detail worth pointing out is the bay spacing. Instead of spacing the columns evenly, this building runs 24′ – 12′ – 24′ bays. The wider 24′ bays give the customer plenty of room to move equipment in and out of the building, while keeping the layout practical for how the building will actually be used.
The lean-to roof drops 2 feet below the main roofline, which gives the building a more defined, finished appearance. The lean-tos also have full soffit, with no exposed rafters or purlins. That is a detail we really like — besides looking cleaner, it leaves fewer places for birds to nest in the framing.
The end wall features a 20′ wide × 16′ tall overhead door, with two 16′ wide × 12′ tall overhead doors along the sidewall.
It is a good example of how small design decisions — bay spacing, roofline changes, soffit and door placement — can be tailored around what the customer actually needs the building to do.
